一、石蜡的理化特性（一）石蜡是由于高分子碳氢化合物所构成，其结构式为CLH2n+2。含有16～35个碳原子的正烷烃，有少量的异构烷烃和环烷烃。为白色或黄色半透明无水的固体，无臭无味，呈中性反应。对酸和碱不易起反应，不溶于水，微溶于水，微溶于酒精、易溶于**、汽油、苯、煤油、氯仿等，在一般情况下不与氯化剂发生反应。（二）石蜡是石油的蒸镏产物，其溶点为30-70℃，沸点为350-360℃。。当石蜡加热到100℃或更高时，在与氧气充分接触的条件下，容易被空气中的氧气所氧化。医用的高纯度石蜡，其溶点为50-54℃其含油量。我国早已大量的生产高纯度医用石蜡，供医疗工作的需要。(三)石蜡的热容量大(见表)，导热性小(导热系数为)，比热为·度，为良好的带热体。由于其不含水分及其他液体物质，而且气体与水分不能透过，几乎不呈对流现象，因而有很大的蓄热性能。(四)石蜡加热后冷却时，能放出大量的热能(熔解热或凝固热)(见表)，每公斤熔解的石蜡变为固体时，放出的熔解热平均为39卡热量，即是熔解时的热量。熔解石蜡的温度愈高，由液体变为固体时的过程就愈慢，因而也就能较长地保持温热。(五)石蜡具有很大的可塑性，粘稠性和延伸性。随着热能的放散和冷却，石蜡逐渐变硬。

Microcrystalline waxes are derived from residium. These waxes have very minute crystals (micro-crystals) and are flexible. They have a greater affinity for oil, which is held tightly in the crystalline lattice and does not migrate to the surface.
